Vet Nurses

The veterinary nurse plays an important role in the anaesthetic management of patients every single day. Day one of this workshop is designed for both new and experienced nurses looking to update their anaesthesia knowledge and skills, providing a solid grounding in the foundations of anaesthesia while enabling confidence in anaesthetic protocols, procedures and utilising the pre-emptive thought process all anaesthetists must possess.

Please note that we also offer an Anaesthesia for Veterinary Nurses II (day 2) workshop to complement this session.

Key learning areas:

  • The anaesthetic machine components, pressure checks, rebreathing and non-rebreathing circuits and oxygen flow rates.
  • Gold standard monitoring equipment
  • Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of sedative and induction anaesthesia agents
  • The induction and intubation process with correct endotracheal tube cuff inflation technique
  • Minimum alveoli concentration and how it relates to our anaesthetised patient
  • Defining ASA status, and expected complications with treatment options in the anaesthetised patient
  • Defining a patient specific anticipated problems and considerations list
